Education Assistance
MCCCE offers educational assistance scholarships each spring for full- and part-time students enrolled at a post-secondary educational facility.
The assistance awards are granted based on students' GPA, financial need, achievements and future goals. The McCracken County Community Career Endowment, Inc. distributed the 2011 Educational Assistance/Scholarships at a reception honoring ten (10) students on May 1, 2011 at the Emerging Technology Center on the WKCTC campus. Students receiving the assistance were: Jamarik Shelton, Natasha Lee, Carmen Johnson, Bradley James, Joseph Jones, Kortney Williams, Shaquila Zollicoffer, Sydney Flowers, Sandra Kelly and Donald Shaw. The keynote speaker was Mr. Delquan Dorsey who serves as the Executive Director of the Governor's Office of Minority Empowerment. Mr. Dorsey spoke to the crowd and scholarship recipients about the changes and challenges in education. He charges them to identify what they could do on a local level to shape ongoing changes in education. He advised to not point the finger at teachers and administrators alone when looking at problems with school systems. With the help of a local community, an investment in education helps all parties involved. Mr. Dorsey encouraged more hands-on experience in education, including Internship experiences for younger students.
Two scholarship recipients, Ms Sydney Flowers and Mr. Jamarik Shelton, were presented new Dell laptops and carrying cases by Ms Cathy Elliott which were donated by Ronald McDonald House Charities. CLICK HERE TO VIEW MS. FLOWERS AND CLICK HERE TO SEE MR. SHELTON.
